How to Enable Hidden Reader Mode In Google Chrome on PC or Mac

One of the best things Firefox browsers stood above Google Chrome was about the inbuilt reader modes. The reading mode removes unwanted elements and ads from a blog post and will convert to a reader-friendly format. If you have been using third-party extensions to get reader mode on Chrome, it is time to remove those extensions. Google Chrome now has an inbuilt reader mode which is hidden.

See how to find the hidden reader mode and enable the inbuilt reading mode in Google Chrome.

Enable Google Chrome Reader Mode

Google Chrome browser has many underlying features that are hidden by default. We need to enable the “chrome flags” from the experimental features on Chrome. The reader mode for Chrome is such a feature and you have to enable it manually.

Enable Google Chrome Reader Mode

  1. Open Google Chrome browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook.
  2. Visit the URL chrome://flags/#enable-reader-mode in new tab.
  3. Enable the option “Enable Reader Mode.”
  4. Click the “Relaunch” button that appears at the bottom to relaunch Google Chrome.
  5. Now you can visit any website or webpage with long readable text.
  6. Click on the book icon on the right of the address bar to enable reader mode.

The webpage will instantly turn into a reading focused style. It will remove other web page items, ads, scripts, and all. You can peacefully read what you are looking for. All the images in the article or blog will still appear in the reader mode. You can also customize the appearance by clicking the “A” button at the top. Change the page color to white, yellow or dark and change font size for better readability.
