This is a simple trick to Airplay MAC screen to a Windows Monitor for free of cost. As you know, dual monitor setup can improve productivity and easy to work by sharing few windows or apps on a secondary monitor. Sometimes I work with my Mac Laptop and I wish I had a secondary monitor to move certain windows to the second monitor.
Apple echo system is very closed and isolated. Usually, Apple won’t allow you to share the screen with a Windows Operating System. However, if you own an Apple TV (buy from Apple Store), then Apple Operating System like iOS or OS-X let you airplay from these Apple devices to a big TV Screen using Apple TV.
What about casting Mac screen direct to a Windows tablet or Windows Desktop screen without any cables? This trick is coming as very convenient, easy and work over Wi-Fi that let you extend or mirror your Mac Screen to Windows-based PC or Tablet Screen.
In this workaround, we will demonstrate how to setup Windows Monitor as a secondary monitor for your Mac System without any physical cables. Obviously, there are a few pre-requirements to work with this solution. As a side note, this solution will work with most of the Windows operating system including Windows 10.
Step 1. Make Sure Mac Support Airplay
Before you start, please make sure that Windows and Mac system should be under same Wi-Fi network. The second requirement is that your Mac OS whether it is Laptop or Desktop should have airplay support. Just in case if you want to check or enable your Mac Airplay, please go to System Preferences > Displays > Check for Airplay Display at the bottom of the window.
Step 2. Install the Software on Windows
This DVD player is coming with a lot of other nice features including youtube streaming, music player internet radio, etc., and free to download for Windows operating system.
Step 3. Airplay Mac to Windows PC
Once you download the app on Windows System, go back to you Mac System and go to Mac Airplay settings. You can set to display Airplay icon on OS X top menu, and this is optional but convenient. Go to System Preferences > Displays > Check in > Show Mirroring options in the menu bar when available.
Now if you click on Airplay icon on the menu bar or settings, you can see Windows PC name as available for Airplay. Click on the Windows PC name to start Airplay from Mac to Windows screen.
Step 4. Extend Mac Display to Windows Screen.
You can Airplay Mac screen in two different modes, mirror mode or extend mode. The mirror mode simply displaying the mirror image of primary monitor to secondary monitor. In extend mode, you can extend your Mac screen to Windows as a second monitor. Go to AirPlay menu > Use AirPlay Display to > Select Extend Desktop.
Now you can click and drag a couple of Apps and browser or website windows to extended Windows screen and enjoy the work. Please be aware, at any time, you can disconnect AirDisplay display direct from top menu icon.
