Netflix may lose its number 1 spot someday, but it has managed to become the first name when you think of streaming movies and TV shows. Like Google is for search, Netflix has even become a verb. However, recently, Netflix has provided some reasons for users to turn away. If you want to cancel your Netflix subscription, you’re probably not alone.
Be it the price hike or the ridiculous attempt to stop password sharing, limiting it to only people who live with you. If you have a family member who lives in another town, bad luck. Fortunately, it is easy to cancel Netflix account, if that’s what you want.
Cancel Netflix Subscription on the Web
If you use the Netflix app for Windows, you will still need to log in to Netflix on a web browser in order to cancel your subscription.
- Open Netflix in a web browser and log into your account.
- Click on your Account picture in the top-right corner.
- Select Account.
- On the left, click on the big Cancel Membership button.
- Confirm your choice by clicking on Finish Cancellation.
Your subscription is not immediately cancelled. Instead, Netflix will allow you to continue watching until your next billing period. After all, you’ve already paid for it.

Cancel Netflix Membership on the Phone
On your Android or iOS device, typically, the App Store or the Play Store handle subscriptions. However, they do charge a fee from the app developers. So, to avoid this, Netflix and a few others only allow subscriptions using their own payment gateways. This is why you would have to cancel your Netflix account from the Netflix app.
- Open Netflix.
- Tap on your account picture in the top-right.
- Select Account.
- Tap on the Cancel Membership button.
- Confirm your choice by clicking on Finish Cancellation.
The process is pretty much the same as the web, which is a good UX design choice by Netflix. The only difference is in the interface due to the smaller screen size.

Can’t See Netflix Cancel Membership Button?
In some cases, you may not be able to see the Cancel Membership button whether you’re using the Netflix app or the web. That’s because you’ve probably subscribed to Netflix via another provider, such as your phone company or your cable service. You can find out more by clicking on the Billing details link.
In that case, you must cancel your Netflix subscription from that service’s website or app, whichever they provide. Some services offer Netflix in a plan bundle. You might even have to switch to a plan that does not contain a Netflix subscription.
If you’re worried about losing your watch history and recommendations, Netflix hasn’t gone down the Apple route of punishing you for cancellation. Netflix keeps your data for 10 months since cancellation. If you renew your subscription at anytime within the 10 months, you can just continue where you left off. If you cancel again, your 10-month window restarts from that point onwards.
